The Ada Belfield Centre & Library by Glancy Nicholls

The NDSA welcome back Director Paul Hutt and the team from Glancy Nicholls Architects.

He joins us to talk about their award winning Dementia care home, that regenerated the old Thornton's chocolate Factory in Belper, Derbyshire.

The project successfully merges the unusual but stimulating uses of a library and care home in what has long been a problematic part of the town. Through this novel combination, the growing issue of dementia care becomes a main ingredient in the recipe for successful town centre regeneration.

Twining this with a committed public client the NDSA feel this is a project worth hearing about.

If this project sounds familiar that may be because the Belper project is one of two schemes Glancy Nicholls for which has been shortlisted for the MacEwen Award within the county of Derbyshire in recent years.

Their other project being another care home up the Derwent Valley called 'Meadow View' for which it won the award in 2018 and featured in our Derbyshire Architecture Celebration at the beginning of 2020 organised by our President/Chair Joshua von Fragstein.

We very much look forward to having Paul and the team back.

So come join us and hear how Derbyshire is pioneering the way forward in dementia care architecture.
